2.1 Molecular systems biology

Systems analysis and study has been applied to many fields in biology such as ecology, systematic biology and evolutionary biology.

In the last two decades, the explosion of high-throughput techniques has placed the traditional molecular

biology in the reach of a system approach given origin to a new disciple usually called molecular systems biology.

Although this systemic approach is not able yet to tackle problems for higher organisms it has seen a lot of success when dealing with unicellular organisms.

In this section, the origin, roots and main features and characteristics of this new discipline are review and addressed.
